Mitch Daniels – on the record

“If this is a good record, what would a bad one look like?” gubernatorial candidate Mitch Daniels asked during his debate with Governor Joe Kernan.

Funny he should ask.

While Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, My Man Mitch designed budgets that took us from a projected 10-year surplus of $5.6 trillion to a projected 10-year deficit of $4.4 trillion. As journalist David Sirota pointed out, that $10 trillion deterioration amounts to $12 million a day, 7 days a week over My Man Mitch’s 29-month tenure.

After spending most of his three years cutting federal grant programs to states, My Man Mitch faults the incumbent state leadership for being last in federal grants, as reported in the Indianapolis Star on August 24.And despite not finding room in his budgets for promised increases for cops, firefighters, and homeland security, My Man Mitch did see fit to push for a budget increase for his own office.

My Man Mitch promised the federal budget deficit in 2003 would be only $80 billion, but the price tag passed along to future generations was for $374 billion – a difference of $294 billion.

I agree with My Man Mitch.Let’s have a vote on the record.
